Macpac sold to Mouton Noir

Filed under: Gear — MAC Team @ 12:20 am

The iconic New Zealand based Macpac has been sold to a local New Zealand company Mouton Noir which acquired Fairydown during 2007. Moutoin Noir’s group of three owners have been involved with Kathmandu, Bivouac (NZ) and Mountain Designs in Australia. In 2007 they purchased the Fairydown brand from Jan Cameron (founder of Kathmadu) and have relaunched the brand using their own retail outlets focused on the New Zealand market.

With the acquisition of Macpac it seems likely that the brand will disappear from Australian retailers’ stores. Mouton Noir has stated that they will be unble to take on all Macpac’s employees. More details are sure to emerge and we’ll post them here as they do.
