Brumby walk & an easy introduction to overnight bush walking
If you are interested in seeing some of the famous Kosciuszko brumbies we had great success with this easy overnight walk, which is suitable for kids.
We left Dead Horse Gap car park at about 6pm and followed the Cascade trail along the Thredbo River. Then headed towards Teddy’s Hut, we saw one brumby in the distance. We set up camp by a stream right on dark, cooked pasta, ate and all slept soundly.
This morning we left our packs and headed up the valley further, looking for brumbies. The weather was coming in and there was lots of tracks and poo, but no brumbies. We headed back and when we got back onto the Cascade trail found a mare, foal and one other brumby sheltering just below the trees. We were back at the car by 10pm after having a successful trip!
