Rottefella has announced that they will discontinue maufacture of Naxo bindings in order to refocus on their core business of nordic and telemark bindings.Rottefella’s marketing and sales manager Torbjorn Ragg said, ” Despite strong sales and marketing support for Naxo since Rottefella purchased it in 2006, the bottom line is that Naxo hasn’t achieved the critical mass worldwide that we needed in a very crowded market.”
The move is significant as it shows the current pressures surrounding binding development and manufacture, particularly with the financial climate. With new systems on the market in both the telemark and nordic markets, Naxo may have been a stretch too far for Rottefella.
It’s a pity however as Naxos filled a needed niche in the AT binding market along side the Diamir Fritschi Freeride. We can only hope that Rottefella retains the designs for a better time or sells the manufacturing capability. Watch out for more consolidation in this market.
