One of our favourite things to do is to introduce our customers to the pleasures of ski touring. We’ve been taking lots of people out lately with the beautiful weather we have had in the past few weeks. It doesn’t matter if you have never skied before, or if you come from a downhill skiing background, it is easy to get away from it all on cross country skis.
We are loving the new Madshus skis that are making it so easy for people to take their first steps in coss country. Look out for a video soon featuring these skis.
The spring skiing season has just begun and there is plenty of snow on the mountains for touring, so give us a call.
Back again with our latest Backcountry Report for 16 August 2011. Haven’t been able to update the report as regularly as we wanted to, but this week we headed up to Schlink Pass from the Munyang Power Station to see how the condition are.
Despite the rain and warm conditions over the past couple of weeks we were really pleasently surprised to find good snow above 1700m. Schlink Pass is just over 1800m and as you’ll see from the video the snow was looking good. Above this height we had reports of great cover on the Rolling Grounds and beyond.
Things look set up for a long spring, and we’ll do our best to keep you posted. Please comment below if you’ve something to share, we’d love to hear your recent experiences. John.
Our latest Backcountry Report, this week we got out to the remote Kidmans Hut. An epic walk in soft conditions on showshoes. Not sure if skis would have been better, but when this snow consolidates it will have set up a fantastic season. Enjoy the show and hope to see you up here soon.
The season looks to be off to a great start with early falls that seem set to stay around into early June. The weather pattern looks like more early falls so with any luck this will be a longer season than we have had in recent years.
We’ve had a lot of phone calls asking about the snow conditions in the backcountry, with early season trips in mind. So we took a walk up the Munyany Valley as far as Horse Camp hut and took some video so you can see for yourself.
As you can see, it is early days for for ski trips, but beautiful late autumn weather in the mountains and there is plenty of snow for snowshoeing. So if you can get away this weekend an want an early winter adventure come on up! The weather is threatening to come in so bring your warm gear, and if it is too cold call in at the shop for a free coffee and have a look at some of the new season gear.
This weekend Mountain Adventure Centre guide Mike Edmonson headed out with 3 clients for a backcountry tour. The conditions on the main range are awesome this spring and look like they are going to hold up for a while yet. Mike supplied the photos below; they are from camp below Muellers Pass, Mt Townsend, Lake Albina & Mt Northcote.
Updated touring conditions from Mike Edmondson our local Mountain photographer and Mountain Adventure Centre Guide!
