Many still think of this as early season but the great conditions tell otherwise. Amazing cover for this time of the year providing a great ½ day ski tour. The great snow cover means easy access to the back country and fantastic skiing.
Today’s small group were lead on an introductory ski tour covering basic skills needed to negotiate off trail skiing in the Australian High Country. We headed out in the direction of Porcupine rocks from Perisher Ski Resort. The group loved getting away from the crowds and were amazed by the natural, untouched environment of the mountains in winter.
Back again with our latest Backcountry Report for 16 August 2011. Haven’t been able to update the report as regularly as we wanted to, but this week we headed up to Schlink Pass from the Munyang Power Station to see how the condition are.
Despite the rain and warm conditions over the past couple of weeks we were really pleasently surprised to find good snow above 1700m. Schlink Pass is just over 1800m and as you’ll see from the video the snow was looking good. Above this height we had reports of great cover on the Rolling Grounds and beyond.
Things look set up for a long spring, and we’ll do our best to keep you posted. Please comment below if you’ve something to share, we’d love to hear your recent experiences. John.
Our latest Backcountry Report, this week we got out to the remote Kidmans Hut. An epic walk in soft conditions on showshoes. Not sure if skis would have been better, but when this snow consolidates it will have set up a fantastic season. Enjoy the show and hope to see you up here soon.
Thing are looking set for a great winter and a long spring of touring in the mountains. The base is well set up and with the heavy falls predicted this week, this weekend will be best yet. Our latest backcountry report. We went up to Guthgea and up past Illowong Hut to have a look at the snow conditions. Things are looking promising up top, but it is early season and we still need some more snow.
Still conditions are good for an early ski and snowshoe. The mountains are quiet and you’ll have the place to yourself.
Where do you want us to go next time for the report?
Here is our latest backcountry report. A lovely day at Seaman’s Hut with snow starting to stay on the south facing gullies. Snow is predicted in the coming days and weeks, so looks like a return to a more normal ski season- what ever that is in Australia! Come on up for a walk or ride before it gets cold and the storms come in.
Here is our weekly backcountry report. We walked up to Blue Lake in the Snowy Mountains Kosciuszko National Park for a look at the early winter snow conditions. With beautiful weather predicted for the weekend it is a great time to come up and see the mountains at their best.
